Biggin Hill Airport has unveiled its vision for the future after concerns were raised over its 2012 Olympics plan.

The airport had requested permission from Bromley Council to extend its operating hours for the Games and also a relaxation of the ban on fare-paying passengers.

Councillors threw out these requests after concerns were raised about creating a precedent for future changes to the lease so now LoCATE@Biggin Hill has been produced.

The LoCATE plan (which stands for London Centre for Aviation Technology & Enterprise) is to develop the airport and surrounding area for businesses.

It says there will be no charter flights, no night flights, no larger aircraft and no holiday makers and that there are no plans to be like Luton or Gatwick.

The airport’s new managing director Jenny Munro says LoCATE @ Biggin Hill is going to be a vital component to help Bromley’s economy.

Ms Munro said: “These are exciting times for Biggin Hill Airport, its strategic stakeholders and the surrounding community.

“Locate @ Biggin Hill is the output of a significant amount of work and collaboration which serves to articulate the value and potential of Biggin Hill as a centre for inward investment, business development, job creation, skills upgrade and prosperity.

“It will fully support the future development of Bromley’s local plan as well as Biggin Hill’s position as a strategic outer London development centre.”

The airport employs more than 1,000 people and it estimates if Locate is successful there could be another 1,500 jobs created in the area.
