ROUND two of the dispute over Olympic equestrian events in Greenwich Park will take place this week.

An application by games organisers for July’s test events has been called in to the planning board after a number of objections and will be heard at Woolwich Town Hall on Thursday (Apr 14).

Objectors include members of campaign group No To Greenwich Olympic Equestrian Events (Nogoe) which led protests against the original plans.

If passed, a temporary arena will be built in the park for show-jumping, while a specially-designed cross country competition will be held on a smaller scale to 2012’s main event.

Park closures are expected from June 20 to July 11 but the flower gardens and western side of the park will remain open.

The original application to use the park for Olympic events was passed last year after an epic and sometimes bad tempered planning hearing.
