A MEETING has been held with European environment commissioner Janez Potocnik to discuss London’s poor air quality.
Organised by Clean Air in London, it was attended by London Assembly members, environmental groups such as Friends of the Earth and London MEP Sarah Ludford.
London’s poor air quality is in breach of EU regulations and the UK is in danger of being fined if it does not take action.
Parts of Bexley are among the locations which struggle to meet EU limits on PM10s (small sooty particles which, when breathed in, can get stuck in the lungs).
After the meeting Ms Ludford said: “The shocking air pollution in London is a terrible health threat, causing up to 8,000 premature deaths a year in greater London.
“This is a real emergency.”
