If your Christmas decorations are looking a little bit sad and old fashioned, maybe it’s time to trash your tinsel and bling up your baubles with a fresh look for 2010.
News Shopper: le If you want to freshen up old Christmas decorations, it’s a good idea to think about a new theme or colour scheme each year. One year, you can choose to focus on Santa Claus’ workshop when making the Christmas decorations; the following year, you can choose the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. For the next year, you can, for example, choose a winter landscape as inspiration for the decorations. Red and gold, blue and silver and gold and white are traditional colour inspirations but black and silver is an increasingly popular choice – particularly in more contemporary homes.

Christmas decorations date all the way back to the old Christmas markets in 16th century Germany. In those days, Christmas food, such as sugar rods, honey cakes, and other Christmas candy, were particularly used as Christmas decorations. In the 18th century, many other kinds of Christmas decorations became popular. Among them were glazed paper, coloured paper, and those which contain candies, nuts, cakes, raisins, and fruits.
In many families, Christmas decorating traditions and decorations are passed on from generation to generation. However, every year, new decorations are purchased to replace the old or if new inspiration is needed.
News Shopper: le Most people and families of the world consider the Christmas tree as the centrepiece of the living room during the festive season. But a Christmas tree without attractive Christmas decorations really won’t make your home full of festive spirit.

Christmas bells and balls are amongst the top decorations for a Christmas tree. There are Victorian Christmas balls and bells that are embedded with beads, while there are other types of these popular Christmas decor embellishments that are laced with ribbons and flower designs. But there are lots of other ways to decorate your home.

Nativity scenes always look effective – especially if they can be placed in a bay window or on a low shelf and if you are lucky enough to have an attractive fireplace then a selection of empty Christmas stockings hung from the mantle is a must.

Or make some simple bows from Christmas ribbon and pin them around the house, don’t worry too much about overkill – Christmas is the ideal time to go a little bit over the top with decorations and not worry!
