A SCHOOL has been given retrospective planning permission for two outdoor play areas despite objections from people living nearby.

Bromley Council has approved an application by Stewart Fleming School in Witham Road, Penge, for permission for the play areas it has built at the rear of the main building.

West Beckenham Residents’ Association and people living near the school had written to the council to oppose the application, saying the noise of the children playing is disturbing.

Janet Ambrose, aged 73, who lives in Suffield Road, said: “The playground is just a few yards from residential homes and the noise can be unbearable.”

However, the council decided the application was “satisfactory” in terms of “the impact on the amenities of the occupiers of adjacent and nearby properties”.
