A MUM has blasted the “scum” who drugged and stabbed her family’s pet dog before stealing their car and possessions.

Trish McCarthy, aged 39, of Mottingham Road, was woken up at around 5.50am on December 7 to the sound of voices downstairs.

The legal secretary and mother-of-two went to investigate and found six-year-old German shepherd Zola lying by her open frontdoor with a one inch deep stab wound to her ankle.

Around £4,000 worth of jewellery, the family’s £20,000 Volkswagen Touareg car and two mobile phones had been stolen.

Ms McCarthy said: “We think they must have drugged Zola and then come back to check that she was out. That’s when they stabbed her in her ankle.

“I’m disgusted. I think they’re scum.

“The vet said they’ve done it with such force and with such a sharp blade that it went through the bone. They didn’t need to do that.” News Shopper: Zola was stabbed so hard the wounhd cut through bone

The dog is recovering and Ms McCarthy, who lives with her children, said she is relieved none of the family were hurt.

She said: “I feel sick that it could’ve been me or it could’ve been my son.

“You think you’re protected in your own house when you’ve got a dog but they’ve even found a way around that.”

A spokesman for Greenwich police said: “The attack on the dog is very unusual and we have not recorded similar attacks on pet dogs in the past."
