A FORMER Met Police inspector has just published his first book about his life as a London copper.
Clive Smith, who has always lived in Bexley, joined the Met in 1979 and completed 30 years service.
Married with three grown-up children, he served at several police stations including Bexleyheath and Plumstead, as well as a spell in the Diplomatic Protection Group and at Woolwich Crown Court.
His book, From Hendon to Pension, A Life in the Met, is full of amusing anecdotes about his life in uniform and life in the Met Police in general.
These include a call from a senior officer at Scotland Yard to Erith police station suggesting it might be an ideal station to site a marine police unit.
The station officer replied: “Perhaps you could have a word with another senior officer who moved them about a year ago, having been stationed here for over 100 years.”
The book, published by Book Guild Publishing is priced at £16.99.
