TWO smokers were prosecuted after failing to pay fines for dropping cigarette butts in the street.
Gravesham Council took the case to Dartford Magistrates Court on Wednesday December 8, when both were convicted of littering.
Neither Andrea Bath, aged 38, of Wingfield Road, Gravesend or Auidrius Kimbiraciskas, aged 24, of Chesnut Close, Northfleet, attended.
Both were fined £150 with a further £105 in costs to pay each within 28 days.
Gravesham council cabinet member for the environment, Councillor John Cubitt said: “The council takes littering very seriously and if people drop fag ends or any other rubbish on our roads the message is clear.
“We want these cases to act as a deterrent to others to stop and think before dropping litter of any kind.”
