A STAINED glassmaker is hoping to add an extra sparkle to Bexley’s cultural Olympiad in 2012 by staging a medieval event at one of the borough’s premier open spaces.

Hugh Wootton from Albany Park, Sidcup, wants to hold a medieval fair in Foots Cray Meadows, North Cray, in July 2012, followed in the evening by an outdoor performance of Shakespeare’s Henry V.

The idea, already registered on London’s 2012 cultural calendar, is still in its earliest stages, but before detailed plans are made Mr Wootton says he needs some idea whether such an event would have support in the borough.

His fair would include arts and crafts, entertainment and the environment and he hopes to involve schools, sporting clubs, businesses, charities, arts groups and others.

The play would be performed in a natural amphitheatre on the site of the former Footscray Place.

He is already putting together a team of experienced organisers and any money raised on the day will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.
