A PROJECT is revamping a community centre with help from the people who live nearby.
The centre in Brangbourne Road, Bellingham, is being worked on by tradesmen along with unemployed people who are learning construction skills at the same time.
It is part of a scheme by repair company Willmott Dixon with help from Phoenix Community Housing.
The work will go towards an NVQ2 Building Maintenance Operations qualification for the trainees.
Willmott Dixon managing director Mick Williamson said: "We firmly believe in investing in the communities where we work. Our aim is that the community centre will be a hub from which many people gain the necessary skills to start successful careers.”
