GRAVESHAM council will decide on Wednesday (December 8) whether to approve an application for extra care housing on green belt land in Meopham.
The application, submitted by SJP Group on February 1, proposes 53 sheltered housing units on land north of Longfield Road and west of Evenden Road.
It has received heavy criticism from the Kent branch of Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE), which opposes it on social and environmental grounds.
Committee member of the charity, Alex Hills said: “The development is on very high grade fertile agricultural green belt land and is known for its wildlife.”
Mr Hills told News Shopper if the council is not willing to refuse the application, it should be referred to the Secretary of State.
