HOT on the heels of its success in London in Bloom, Bexley’s collective green fingers have just scooped another top award.

This time it was the London Gardens Society’s Wakefield trophy.

The cup is awarded by the society to an affiliated society or organisation which chalks up the highest number of points in the All London Championship.

And this year to top points scorer was Bexley with its council-run Bexley in Bloom contest.

Head of parks and open spaces for Bexley, Colin Rowland, was at the awards ceremony in the Old Library at the Guildhall in London, to receive the trophy.

Double Bexley in Bloom winner Rosemarie Raymond of Tavistock Gardens, Welling said: “What a year it has been.

“First, we win two of Bexley’s top prizes and the London Garden Society cup and gilt medal for the best small front garden in London, then Bexley in Bloom wins the top prize.

Her husband Alan added: “It is wonderful to think we had a part to play in our borough being recognised as being the best in London.”
