A £50,000 Heritage Lottery Fund grant to the Conservation Foundation is financing the first complete survey of elm trees in London with help from tree officers and wardens, schools and the general public. As well as a comprehensive guide to where surviving elm trees are located, the foundation will plant 1,000 new elm saplings, including in every road with “elm” in its name.

London Mayor Boris Johnson has launched his Green Visual Arts guide, encouraging the arts to play their part in reducing London’s carbon emissions by 60 per cent by 2025. Initiatives include installing LED lighting in galleries, switching CD packaging from plastic to cardboard and building sets at Pinewood Studios onsite instead of importing them.

Young membership of the wildlife charity RSPB has reached an all-time high with one in five part of its junior membership. In Bexley the junior membership stands at 498.
