STUDENTS at a primary school have performed in an assembly for Black History Month.

The assembly at Kidbrooke Primary School in Hargood Road, Kidbrooke took place in four different parts to mark the month.

It started of with five children performing a street dance routine, followed by a second section looking at black inventors. During this part the children spoke about Garret Morgan who patented the first traffic light.

In a third section, pupils looked at famous black sport personalities, focussing on boxers Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali. They acted out a playground fight with commentary in the style of a match.

Finally the assembly rounded of with the children discussing what Black History Month meant to them.

Reception class teacher Sharon Foster organised the assembly and put the whole morning together. She said: “The children really enjoyed themselves and it gave them a chance to learn more about black history.”
