SINGLE parents are being offered support to get them back to work.
People who have a child aged seven or over will now claim Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) if they are able to work, rather than Income Support.
Training opportunities, job application advice and financial grants as well as advice on childcare and part-time or family friendly working will be on offer.
In Lewisham 6,280 people receive Income Support while 5,250 claim the benefit in Greenwich.
Parents previously stayed on benefits until their child was 10 before getting help to look for work.
Prathiba Ramsingh from Jobcentre Plus said: “We can help you find work that fits into your commitments, and give you support to get the type of job you want.”
