THE founder of a hospice is getting first class recognition.
Dame Cicely Saunders, the founder of St Christopher's Hospice, Sydenham, features on a set of 10 first class stamps.
Sir Winston Churchill, Charles Darwin, suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst, painter Sir Joshua Reynolds, nurse and adventurer Mary Seacole, poet T.S. Eliot, writers Virginia Woolf and Sir Walter Scott and playwright William Shakespeare are on the other stamps.
The stamps feature important figures from different areas of UK life as pictured in works from the National Portrait Gallery.
Head of Royal Mail special stamps Julietta Edgar said: "The fantastic variety of personalities featured on the stamps all possess the shared quality of having made a significant contribution in their field."
The set of stamps were released on July 18 to celebrate the 150th birthday of the National Portrait Gallery.
