A DERELICT pub will be demolished to make way for eight flats and new shops.
Bromley Council’s planning committee has given developer McCullochs permission to knock down The Five Bells pub in Bromley Common.
It will be replaced with a three-storey building, with retail premises on the ground level, and four one-bedroom flats and four two-bedroom flats on the second and third floor.
People living near the pub had written to the council to oppose McCullochs application, saying the new premises would be out of character with the area and cause an increase in noise and traffic.
However, a council planning officer said the development will “respect the existing character and appearance of the street scene” and “not overwhelm” nearby homes.
