TWO North Kent schools brought Shakespeare up-to-date by combining his plays with a modern soundtrack.
Children from Parkwood Hall School and Hextable School in Swanley created modern versions of Romeo and Juliet and The Winters Tale and performed them in the Shakespeare School Festival at Lewisham Broadway Theatre.
The productions stayed true to the playwright’s language but also included music like Beyoncé’s Single Ladies.
Tina Collins, Assistant Head Teacher at Hextable School, said: “For lots of them it’s the first time they’ve experienced the stage so it was very exciting.
“They’ve worked very hard and been very dedicated.”
Ms Collins is so proud of the students that she now hopes to take the performances on tour.
