POLICE who work with deaf people have been recognised for their achievements.

PC Helen Davies and colleagues from Lewisham were commended at the Met’s Diversity Excellence Awards for their work with the deaf community through the borough's Deaflink scheme.

Business manager Dennis Saunders and trainer Gina Bobin were also recognised for their roles in the scheme which fosters greater links with people who have hearing disabilities.

Ms Bobin has given basic sign language lessons to over 80 police officers.

Deputy Commissioner Tim Godwin who presented the awards at the special ceremony at New Scotland Yard, said: "I am proud of the men and women of the service and their desire to achieve and provide a professional service.”
