A TOWN centre leisure complex is set for a £5m upgrade.

The 20-year-old Pavilion Leisure Centre in Kentish Way, Bromley, will get a new gym, family play centre, tenpin bowling alley with refurbishments to the changing rooms and reception area.

Cash has been made available thanks to a partnership between Bromley Council and Bromley Mytime.

Chairman of Bromley Mytime Dennis Barkway said: “We are delighted to be working alongside Bromley in investing in and managing Bromley’s flagship leisure centre.

"This reflects our original purpose and builds on the £6m worth of improvements we’ve been able to make at other services and centres across Bromley.

"We’re committed to keeping the centre open during the project which is expected to last for 12 to 15 months, and minimise any disruption to our customers."

Work is due to begin early next year with a completion date scheduled for spring 2012.

The leisure centre will remain open during the redevelopment.

Council leader Councillor Stephen Carr said: "The new pavilion will provide more modern facilities for Bromley’s residents and will be a great place for families and young people right at the heart of the town centre."
