A DISGRUNTLED father given parking fines after his ticket fell off his windscreen on two occasions has hit out at the council.

Andrew Marney claims the hot weather caused his £2 pay-and-display ticket to fall off when he parked in Ringers Road, Bromley.

On the first occasion the 47-year-old paid the £40 fine after unsuccessfully challenging it.

But when the same thing happened again a month later, Mr Marney had his fine quashed with the help of parking attendant head cam footage which showed the ticket was on the floor of his car.

Garden nursery manager Mr Marney, of Walpole Road, Bromley, said: “I’m sure I’m not alone in this case.

“(Bromley Council) should be expected to provide a ticket that goes on the windscreen and stays there.

“Why not spend some of the parking fine money on making a clear wallet which just like a tax disc holder could hold the tickets in place?”

Pensioner Maggie Gebbett had a similar experience two years ago after failing to pay and display in South Street, Bromley.

In protest she paid her £120 fine in pennies.

Bromley Council’s executive councillor for environment Councillor Colin Smith said: “Motorists do need to pay and crucially, display their ticket.

“The ticket can be placed on the dashboard as opposed to stuck on the window if motorists have concerns on this front.

“If motorists receive a penalty charge notice and subsequently contact us, we will check if there is evidence that the display side has somehow gone wrong and where such evidence is found, tickets are cancelled.”
