TEMPORARY “Games Lanes” will be created on major roads to help athletes and officials get to Olympic venues.

Both Horn Lane and Shooters Hill Road close to Greenwich Park will be included as the special lanes.

They will only be used for specific periods of time by official Games vehicles and emergency vehicles on call.

The lanes will be in addition to the Olympic Route Network (ORN), which will make up two and a half per cent of London’s roads.

ORN routes will be roadwork free and subject to measures such as side road closures, banned turns, changes to traffic lights and pedestrian crossings.

Games Lanes will total more than 60 miles in length but will only operate on the busiest parts of the ORN and will form less than one per cent of London’s roads.

The ORN will stretch more than 100 miles across London and around 170 miles outside of London.

Charlton Park Lane will be part of the ORN towards The Royal Artillery Barracks but will only be used for the nine days of competition taking place there.

Other roads to form the ORN in Greenwich include Prince Charles Road, Maze Hill, Park Vista, Millennium Way and the Blackwall Tunnel.

Around 82,000 people will use the routes including athletes, media representatives, Olympic officials, judges, referees and umpires.

CCTV cameras and mobile enforcement teams will be used to catch drivers who illegally drive or park on the ORN.

Anyone caught using the route illegally will face a £200 fine but will receive a 50 per cent discount for paying promptly.
