A MAN shot dead at the notorious Woodpecker Estate has been named.

Police were called to Ludwick Mews in New Cross’s Woodpecker Estate just after 9pm on Monday after Nathan Allen was shot in the head.

The 21-year-old, of Desmond Street, New Cross, was pronounced dead at the scene around 40 minutes later.

A Facebook page also naming Mr Allen as Mase has been set up in the man's memory.

The page has been joined by 647 people so far.

One message says: "Never be forgotten. Another one of god's angels gone too soon."

Another friend writes: "Its true what they say, the good die young."

Formal identification has not yet taken place.

A post-mortem examination began yesterday at Greenwich Mortuary.

The incident is being investigated by Trident, which investigates gun crime in the black community.

Investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Gordon Allison said: "We would like to hear from anyone who may have information in relation to this murder or who may have seen anything at the time.

“Trident is working closely with local borough police and the local community to ensure we follow every lead to identify the suspects in this crime."
