A 25-YEAR-OLD man caught with cocaine with a street value of more than £1m has been given a seven-year jail term.

Christopher Oliver was found with 4.8kg of cocaine and £45,000 cash when police raided his home in Bonaventure Court, Gravesend, in the early hours of March 2.

The 25-year-old was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday (April 30) after pleading guilty to possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply.

Passing sentence, Judge Andrew Patience told Oliver he was not simply the person looking after the cocaine and cash but a “trusted member of a drugs ring”.

He said: “Class A drugs ruin lives and families and the courts are left to pick up the pieces.”

Oliver attempted to escape when police raided the house in Bonaventure Court but was found in a nearby garden with a large box containing the drugs.

Kent police’s Detective Constable Adam Denny, who is part of the north Kent drugs intervention team which investigated Oliver, was in court to see him sentenced.

Afterwards, he said: “I am pleased with the result, which reflects the seriousness of the offence.

“It is also good news this substantial amount of cocaine was seized and has therefore not made it onto the streets of Gravesend.

“We will continue to work to disrupt and dismantle drugs networks in north Kent.”
