Starring: Ellen Page, Patrick Wilson. Directed By David Slade. Running time: 108 minutes. Rating: 2/5 - the most controversial thriller of the year became the most disappointing film I have seen in a long time. Review by Tim Porter.

The Mirror calls it the most controversial thriller of the year, Filmthreat.com regards Hard Candy to be absolutely terrifying, also many other film reviewers around the country are calling it superb.

However, they are completely wrong about this film.

I have to agree that the storyline of this movie is controversial. However, the way the movie was advertised I was thinking this film was going to be dark and disturbing. But I was very wrong.

Hard Candy is about a successful 30-year-old photographer who has been speaking to a girl called Hayley, a 14-year-old girl, over the internet.

After endless weeks of speaking over the internet they decide to meet. After a brief chat Hayley decides to go back to Jeff's place.

That's when Hayley drugs Jeff and decides to unleash her anger on him, calling him an internet paedophile.

At the start of the movie I have to agree that Hard Candy becomes dark and sadistic straight away, however after one hour the movie continuously goes over the same stuff over and over.

The threats become increasingly violent but again nothing happens. It became very boring as absolutely nothing was happening.

The most disappointing thing about Hard Candy is that Lionsgate, who have distributed the film, have had some really good films over the past two years, the debut of Eli Roth with his horror tribute Cabin Fever, Crash, Three Extremes and most recent Hostel.

This movie does not live up to the hype and I think destroys the quality of movies that Lionsgate have distributed.

The only thing I can think that is good about Hard Candy is the extremely impressive performances from Ellen Page (Hayley) and Patrick Wilson (Jeff) that make the movie ever so believable.

It is good as a stage play I guess, but not as a movie.
