ENTHUSIASTIC users of one of Bexley's top open spaces have formed a group to protect and promote it.

The Friends of Foots Cray Meadows will be working with Bexley Council but wants to forge close links with schools, community groups and residents whether they live near to the meadows or not.

The group will hold its first public meeting in the Scout hall in Leafield Lane, off North Cray Road, North Cray, at 7.30pm on June 7.

The meeting will explain the group's background and what it hopes to achieve.

There will also be a brief history of the meadows which, at nearly 240 acres, is the largest open space in the borough.

A description of the range of wildlife which lives there will also be given.

The group will outline the projects it would like to undertake and how everyone can get involved.

Anyone interested in the meadows is invited to attend.
