HEALTH campaigners have cast their eye on an under-fire hospital and given it a cautious seal of approval.

Members of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Patients' Forum visited the hospital in Stadium Road, Woolwich, to carry out a spot check on its performance.

The hospital has recently had financial troubles and looks set to cut up to 100 jobs.

But forum chairman William Bruce says he found reasons to be optimistic during his look around the wards.

He said: "Overall the hospital has greatly improved since our last visit earlier in the year but there is still room for improvement.

"We will continue to conduct regular visits and inspections to monitor cleanliness, infection control and patient satisfaction."

Mr Bruce and fellow forum members looked around A&E, the blood testing unit and several surgical wards during their visit.
