SUPERSTAR Elton John is playing at the home of Charlton Athletic this Sunday. This is the first rock concert the Addicks have hosted since The Who played in 1976.

The show is one of a series of summer concerts in stadiums and cricket grounds across the UK.

Charlton FC were recently granted a licence to stage four non-football events per year, so music fans can look forward to future spectaculars at The Valley.

Charlton Athletic chief executive Peter Varney, said: "We're delighted to be hosting Elton John at The Valley and I'm sure it will be a fantastic evening.

"It will be strange watching a living legend perform live to a capacity audience rather than a Premiership football match."

Since the early 1970s Elton has produced a string of hit singles and albums. His back catalogue includes all-time favourites such as Your Song, Crocodile Rock and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

In 1992 he set up the Elton John Aids Foundation, which he continues to fund through record sales and headline-making, celebrity-studded galas.

The show starts at 6pm when support band The Storys take to the stage.
