Displays take you to heart of action

THIS weekend's Biggin Hill International Air Fair, sponsored by News Shopper, promises a fun-packed show for all the family.

Fans of planes from the past will love the collection of German aircraft from the 1930s and 1940s.

It includes a rare example of the Klemm 35 gull-wing monoplane which first flew in 1935.

Other rare specimens are the radial-engined Focke-Wulf FW44 Stieglitz (Goldfinch) biplane basic trainer from the mid-1930s and the Bucker Bu181 Bestmann, the first trainer adopted by the 1940s Luftwaffe with side-by-side seating.

Another highlight is the UK debut of the Breitling Jet Team.

This group is the world's only civilian aerobatic jet aircraft team.

Flying in L-39C Albatros trainer planes, they are only 10ft apart at some points during their astounding routine.

Forces personnel also promise a stunning battlefield display as part of the spectacular six-hour flying display on both days.

They will come together in an impressive demonstration of air power with fast jets, heavy transport aircraft, ground troops and helicopters as they seek to regain control of an airfield from an enemy force.

There are many attractions available for children at the show including bouncy castles, quad bikes, a funfair and many more.

Air fair organiser Colin Hitchins, from Air Displays International, said: "The Biggin Hill International Air Fair is unprecedented among airshows.

"Visitors will be able to meet the pilots and get up close to the action.

"You do not need to be an aviation enthusiast to enjoy this fine family day out."

Tickets for the fair cost £20 for adults and £7 for children.

A family ticket for two adults and three children costs £45.
