Ravensbourne School, Hayes Lane, Bromley, is celebrating its newly-acquired specialist status in media studies with a day of guest speakers and a film festival.

The school achieved its status last year due to good exam results in the subject.

On May 26 the school will welcome a range of media industry specialists, including representatives from the world of advertising, film, publishing and television, to give an insight into their jobs.

One teacher will demonstrate the use of a professional movie camera and dolly, which Panavision have donated for the day.

Head of media studies Danny Powell said: "We approached contacts we have built up over the years, including former Grange Hill star and film director Amma Asante.

"We've been very lucky with the range of speakers who have agreed to visit us."

The day will culminate in the school's second annual film festival, in which Year 13 film studies and media studies students will have their video work shown to parents, guests and other pupils on a big screen in the school's hall.

The students with the most impressive work will be presented with awards at an Oscar-style ceremony.
