THAMES Water has "got the message" over smells from its Belvedere sewage works.
Erith and Thamesmead MP John Austin says he is hopeful of significant improvements at the Crossness sewage sludge incinerator in Belvedere Road.
Mr Austin and Belvedere councillor Daniel Francis visited Crossness to talk to Thames Water's senior management about hopes that residents can enjoy a stink-free summer this year.
Cllr Francis said: "Thames Water has taken action and there have been relatively few complaints this year."
The company will soon be applying for planning permission to Bexley Council for major work at the plant.
Mr Austin who, like Cllr Francis, lives within sniffing distance of Crossness, said Thames Water had agreed to do most of the work in the week rather than weekends. He also stressed the need for the company to keep residents informed.
