CCTV cameras in Welling, no longer monitor the town's controversial bus lane.

The new Conservative council has taken action to suspend the enforcement of the lane, which runs in sections, from Park View Road to Welling Corner, through the use of the existing CCTV cameras.

The council is reviewing the bus lane and is in talks with Transport for London (TfL).

The former Labour council renewed the contract with TfL last year, which allows it to use up to six cameras on the route.

TfL pays £45,000 to use the cameras. Bexley has made nearly £750,000 profit from fines in the past three years.

But the lane is unpopular with traders who say it has affected business. The lane's removal was one of the Tories' manifesto commitments.
