PUPILS from 10 Bexley primary schools took to the rugby field in a tag rugby tournament organised by Kent Rugby Football Union.

The event, hosted by Erith Rugby Club at its ground in Sussex Road, Northumberland Heath, involved more than 50 pupils aged 10 and 11 playing in a series of non-contact games.

Coaches from the Erith club have been touring the borough's primary schools throughout the year, teaching them the basics of the game.

Winners on the day were Bedonwell Primary School, Bedonwell Road, Belvedere, who will compete in the Kent finals.

Primary schools which took part were Belmont, Belmont Road, Erith; Bursted Wood, Swanbridge Road, Barnehurst; Barnehurst Junior, Barnehurst Close, North-umberland Heath; Colyers, Colyers Lane, Erith; St Augustine of Canterbury, St Augustine's Road, Belvedere; Days Lane, Sidcup; Longlands, Woodside Road, Sidcup; Mayplace, Woodside Road, Barnehurst, and Barrington, Barrington Road, Bexleyheath.
