A FATHER assaulted three police officers after breaching an order banning him from going to his former partner's home.

Gunther Roomes pleaded not guilty to three counts of assaulting a constable in the execution of his duty but was convicted following a trial at Dartford Magistrates' Court.

The 47-year-old was given 100 hours' community service, made to pay £50 compensation to each of the police officers, and ordered to pay £250 costs when he appeared for sentencing on May 23.

The court heard Roomes, of Paget Rise, Woolwich, had gone to his former partner's home in Dartford on March 25 last year, breaching a civil court order.

Prosecutor Nicholas Markendale said: "The defendant was asked to leave the premises and he began to get angry."

When officers were called Roomes knocked into a PC's arm, hit a second officer on the leg and bit a third officer on the arm.

Paul Greene, defending, said Roome was trying to get his life back on track after the breakdown of his marriage.

He said: "He is the main carer for his elderly mother and is trying to arrange for her to go back to Jamaica.

"And he has also just got a place to live after being homeless."

"We must understand the inner turmoil he was going through that day."

Magistrate June Dunne said: "We have considered a prison sentence for you but have decided to give you a community order."
