VOLUNTEERS are needed for a vehicle which provides temporary shelter to people affected by fire or floods.
Gravesend Red Cross is appealing for help in running its specially-adapted caravanette, only one of two serving Kent.
The vehicle, which is called out six to eight times a month, is based at Thameside fire station, Coldharbour Road, Northfleet.
During an emergency, the charity is paged by fire crews and aims to arrive at the scene within 90 minutes to help people evacuated from a property.
The vehicle, which has been in operation for nine years, has first aid equipment, a shower, a toilet, clothing, toys and a telephone.
Team leader Joe Giddings said: "We need as many volunteers as we can. We operate 24/7, 365 days a year."
