GREENWICH has been placed on the shortlist for the UK's first Las Vegas-style casino.
Of 27 applicants, London's Millennium Dome, Wembley Stadium, Cardiff, Blackpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield and Glasgow made it on to the final shortlist.
The Casino Advisory Panel's final decision on the site of the super casino is expected to be handed to ministers in December.
The Government originally suggested there should be eight super casinos but after widespread opposition, the plans were scaled down to just one to save the Gambling Bill.
London Assembly culture committee chairman Dee Doocey said: "While I welcome the potential boost to tourism in London a so-called super casino Greenwich could bring, we cannot afford to be complacent about the possible impact on London's communities.
"Any operator must demonstrate it will create new and sustainable employment opportunities for Londoners."
