Deptford-based development One SE8 built by St James Homes is celebrating its fifth birthday by reflecting on its growth and evolution since its completion.

One SE8 has introduced a number of concepts and lifestyle elements previously unseen in any other residential scheme.

St James feels it has successfully developed a strong sense of community within One SE8 for the residents of its 1,000 contemporary apartments.

Michelle Harris, St James Homes' sales and marketing director, said: "As a company, we always believed that we were creating something unique with One SE8 and after five years the development is still going strong.

"When we first came to Deptford the area was up and coming as one of London's leading regeneration areas, the profile and reputation of Deptford has grown with that of One SE8.

"As the scheme has appealed to many of London's young professional buyers, it is great to see such a lively community on site where the residents really intermingle and enjoy the neighbourly atmosphere we have created."

Services which have been introduced since One SE8's launch include a 24-hour concierge, car share and rental schemes, decorators and a travel agency. There is also a fully-equipped gym, pool, an on-site restaurant and a large landscaped area called Pocket Park has recently been built, with trees and a sculpted seating area.

To satisfy the business-orientated residents attracted to One SE8, St James Homes has also developed some new apartments on site. Live+ are a collection of apartments which blend living and office space, with high specification fixtures and a separate home study. The development has benefited from further extension via its Madison building which launched last month.

Efforts to grow and continually meet the needs of its community have led One SE8 to winning a string of industry awards. It won Your New Home Magazine's Best urban Regeneration in 2003 and Best Brownfield Development at the What House Awards last year.
