Intensive care nurse Louisa Guthrie was inspired to become a nurse after the treatment she received as a child in hospital.
Miss Guthrie, who suffered from childhood leukemia, decided to study nursing as a means of "giving something back".
Now an intensive care nurse at Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup, Miss Guthrie has been nominated as one of Bromley's best nurses by Averil Batting.
Mrs Batting, of Village Green Avenue, Biggin Hill, said: "Louisa demonstrates care and dedication far beyond her call of duty."
Miss Guthrie, of Elmstead Avenue, Chislehurst, said: "I was quite shocked really to be nominated. In some ways all nurses deserve awards for everything they go through."
