Evacuees got together to reminisce about their wartime exploits and to celebrate the 10th birthday of their association.

They met up at the Holy Redeemer Church in Days Lane, Blackfen, to talk about old times and enjoy a slice of birthday cake.

The Evacuees Reunion Association, whose members include entertainer Bruce Forsyth, has gone from strength to strength since it was first formed following the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

It has members from all over the world and is a contact point for old friends and an educational facility.

The group also recently received Heritage Lottery funding to train 45 speakers to give talks and other Lottery funding has enabled it to start compiling a national database of evacuation details.
