A NEW report has criticised the treatment of Muslim inmates at Belmarsh Prison.
Anne Owers, the chief inspector of prisons, says there is evidence of bullying at the Category A jail in Western Way, Thamesmead.
Her report also claims prison officers do not understand the social and religious needs of Muslim prisoners.
Elsewhere the report gives the prison 127 recommendations for improvement but Ms Owers says it is "making progress" overall.
The Prison Service says the report acknowledges some of the "positive strides" Belmarsh has made since its last inspection.
