THE friend who was with Stephen Lawrence on the night the black teenager was murdered has received £100,000 damages from the police.
Duwayne Brooks, 30, has been given the payout by Scotland Yard following complaints he made about his treatment by the force.
Mr Brooks claimed he suffered from severe post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of his treatment.
He has now agreed to drop his threatened legal action as part of the settlement, which also includes a written apology from the police.
Mr Lawrence, 18, was stabbed to death in a racist attack outside a bus stop in Well Hall Road, Eltham, in April 1993.
No-one has ever been convicted of his murder.
