YOUNGSTERS took part in a treasure hunt to celebrate World Book Day.
The event, organised by the Booksellers' Association, the Publishers' Association and National Book Tokens, has been running since 1997.
Lewisham Council's library service and the Horniman Museum, Forest Hill, held a Bookstart treasure hunt and storytelling day at the museum.
Bookstart is a national programme which gives a free pack of books to babies and toddlers with guidance materials for parents and carers.
Twenty youngsters aged between three and seven had to collect five different pictures relating to the museum's Amazon to Caribbean exhibition.
They were then presented with their Bookstart treasure chest by Mr Horniman.
Mr Horniman, played by professional storyteller Josh Gaillemin, also told visitors tales about the collections throughout the day.
Cabinet member for culture Councillor Alyson McGarrigle said: "It was a brilliant way to celebrate World Book Day and highlighted the importance of reading with children during their early years."
