Most parents are happy with the school their children attend, according to a report by Ofsted.

The research, which asked parents from nearly 7,000 schools all over the country their opinion on their child's school, found primary schools and special schools scored highest with levels of parental satisfaction being good, very good or excellent in nine out of 10 cases.

The study however also discovered nearly one in four parents with children at English secondary schools felt the provision was only satisfactory or poor. The most critical comments were directed at secondary schools where pupils scored low exam results.

Ofsted's director of education, Miriam Rosen, said: "Overall the report shows the efforts of headteachers, teachers and governors are being recognised by parents who are satisfied with their children's schools."
