IT IS payback time for the borough's criminals.

Offenders sentenced to community orders will be made to remove graffiti, pick up litter and prune bushes and trees as part of a new Community Payback scheme.

The scheme is a partnership between the Met Police, Bromley Council and the Probation Service.

Chief Inspector Marshall Kent from the Bromley Safer Neighbourhoods unit said: "Communities in Bromley have been telling us about some of their concerns and graffiti is one such problem.

"We have listened and are responding to issues which matter most in neighbourhoods.

"I hope this operation encourages those offenders involved to choose a life away from crime and also discourages anyone who thinks being a criminal pays."

A Safer Neighbourhood team consists of a sergeant, two constables and three Police Community Support Officers.
