A MULTIMEDIA campaign has been launched to try and get young Londoners to vote.

Posters about the 1824 Collective are being put up around London and there will be an advertising campaign on radio stations, the internet and music television channels.

There is also a website 1824collective.co.uk where people can listen to a specially produced urban music track, download registration forms and get information about the campaign.

Elections Minister Harriet Harman said: "The campaign to encourage young Londoners to register to vote is vital for the health of our democracy.

"To have an equal democracy everyone must have the right to vote at election time."

She added: "There is clearly a problem of our democracy excluding young people when we have 25 per cent of Londoners under the age of 24 not on the voters' register."

The campaign has been organised by the Mayor of London and the Department of Constitutional Affairs.

It is supported by Operation Black Vote, the Electoral Commission, the Association of London Government and the Commission for Racial Equality.
