THE history of the Martello towers dotting the coastline of the south east will be revealed in a talk by David Sleep at Bexley Village Library on March 22.
Mr Sleep became fascinated by the towers as a child when his parents took him and his sisters on trips to places such as Dymchurch and he has visited most of the towers still standing.
They were part of the fortifications built in the early 1800s to prevent an invasion by Napoleon.
Find out more about the towers and which ones are still open to the public today by going to the talk in the library in Bourne Road, Bexley Village at 7.30pm. The event has been organised by the library volunteers.
Tickets costing £2.50 are available in advance from the library or by calling 020 8303 7777 ext 3361.
