GREENWICH has gained Fairtrade Borough status in recognition of its support of ethical trading.
The borough has received the award from the Fairtrade Foundation, which helps Third World traders get a better deal from western countries.
To gain the status, the council had to meet five overall goals, which included ensuring Fairtrade products are available across the borough's shops and workplaces.
Fairtrade products are now available in 26 retail and 22 catering outlets in Greenwich, as well as a range of workplaces, community organisations and schools.
Councillor John Fahy, who has played a leading role in Greenwich's Fairtrade campaign, said: "I would encourage everyone who lives and works in Greenwich to support Fairtrade by either buying Fairtrade products or asking retailers and employers to stock Fairtrade.
"There is a growing range of produce available so support Fairtrade now."
