A DOCTOR who spat in a policeman's face after he was caught fare dodging has been suspended for a year.

Somalian GP Dr Osman Mohamud spat at PC John Kerrigan as he tried to flee a bus in Church Manor Way, Abbey Wood, in July 2004.

The father-of-six has now been suspended from the register of serving doctors for 12 months by the General Medical Council (GMC).

Dr Mohamud, who lived in Thamesmead at the time, spat at PC Kerrigan after the officer caught him trying to escape ticket inspectors on the bus.

The 48-year-old was convicted of common assault at Woolwich Magistrates' Court on January 21 last year and sentenced to 80 hours' community service.

The GMC says it decided to ban Dr Mohamud from the register because his conduct had been "inappropriate and unprofessional".
