Disappointing S & C season

RUGBY: Streatham & Croydon went down 33-20 to Old Becs seconds on Saturday despite a spirited second-half comeback.

S & C trailed 21-6 at the break but tries from Matt Roberts and Skipper Spike Willams gave the final scoreline a more respectable look.

S & C play their last league match of a disappointing season when they entertain Horesham at Frant Road on Saturday.

England star

FOOTBALL: Woodcote High School pupil Alex Tapp starred for England U15s in their showpiece Wembley showdown with Brazil at the weekend.

Cheered on by more than 50,000 fans Alex played wing-back and earned his third international cap in the 0-0 draw.

Darren wins

TABLE TENNIS: Croydon's rising table tennis star Darren Blake put on a superb performance to win the national U21 title in Bath last week.

The South Croydon lad is ranked eighth on the national senior men's list.

Title hat-trick

FOOTBALL: Croydon Schools FA's sides scored a superb hat-trick of titles on Saturday.

The U12s won the Gibson Cup against Sutton despite trailing 2-0 after the first leg. Croydon eventually triumphed 8-4 on aggregate thanks to a five-goal performance from Robert Wingfield.

The U13s defeated South Surrey 1-0 in their final league fixture, while the U15s won the Invitation Cup at Wallington Sports Club. Completing a fantastic weekend for the borough's young footballers were the U14s who won their Surrey Cup semi-final against Aldershot 3 -1.
