Wimbledon manager Terry Burton this week made his fourth signing of the summer, snapping up Swedish under-21 start Per Karlsson from IFK Gothenburg. The Dons, who beat Dutch giants Feyenoord to sign Karlsson for £40,000.

The Swedish giants were left with no choice but to cash in on the player, who would have been available on a bosman at the end of their domestic season in November.

Dons chief executive David Barnard said: " It was a very quick deal. We have been watching him for some time and were confident that we could land him at the end of their season.

"However, we actually found out that he was out of contract now so I jumped on a plane as quick as possible to tie up the loose ends. We were just in time given the interest from Feyenoord."

With Wimbledon travelling to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday it is unlikely Karlsson will make his debut.

Meanwhile the Dons haven't given up hope of signing Everton defender Richard Dunne, who made an outstanding debut for the Republic of Ireland in their 2-2 draw in Holland on Saturday.

Dons spokesman Reg Davis said: "Talks are still ongoing. He is due down here this week.

"There was talk of Everton having injury problems which could have stopped the deal but discussions are still taking place with the player.

"At the moment we are only signing young players and Richard fits into that category."

With John Hartson leading the Dons strikeforce after his dream move to Rangers fell through, Wimbledon will be eager to double current points tally of three from four games at Hillsborough.
